New for 2020 - A History of Central Asia

On sale from July 2020.

Volume 10 of the In Brief series of Books for Busy People takes us on a journey along the silk road, where once-traded silks, spices, furs, wool and precious metals have been replaced with natural gas, oil, minerals and communication systems.

Opening with the great early Persian / Iranian Empires of the Achaemenids, the Sassanids and the Safavids, continuing through to the 20th Century period of Soviet rule and concluding with an Epilogue that brings us up to current events, A History of Central Asia is a tale of conquest and invasion, of empire building and colonialism.

Central Asia, consisting since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 of the five nation states of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, has for most of its history been ruled by powerful dynasties, fallen under the vassalage of neighbouring empires or been invaded by foreign powers. This book tells its story, in a manageable, readable format.

A History of Central Asia by Anne Davison is available from Amazon in both paperback and ebook formats.
